Recommended LVDT Core Connecting Rod Design

Core rod material must be non-magnetic, preferably any 300 series (18-8) stainless steel. Other suitable rod materials include titanium, fiberglass, unplated plastics, and carbon-fiber composites. Avoid highly conductive materials like aluminum or brass, because eddy currents induced in them could affect LVDT performance.

Thread 18-8 stainless steel socket set screw (SS) into tapped hole "TT" with Loctite, then thread set screw thread projecting from core rod assembly into LVDT core.

All dimensions in inches; external threads are class 2A; internal threads are class 2B.

Connection / adjustment length "LL" is selected to suit the LVDT installation.

Minimum unthreaded rod length "L" is derived from the formula below:

L=N+R-C/2

Where:

"N" is the null point of the LVDT from its data sheet or table below.
"R" is the range of the LVDT depicted in its model number.
"C" is the length of the LVDT core from its data sheet
"H" is the length of the LVDT case from its data sheet.

Diameter “D”, Threads “T” and “TT”, and Null Point “N” are from the table below:
